Industrial
development, urbanization, pharmaceutical and chemical industry are
in ever increasing mode due to population explosion. Products
produced by Industries undoubtedly are of great use, increasing job
opportunities and contributing to GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
At
the same time it is pathetic to mention that industrial development
pollutes the environment badly. Mainly environment consists of air,
soil and water. Chemical and other industries are highly responsible
for water pollution.
Life
is all comprised of water. To save life, saving water from
contamination is must. Water body contain many types of impurities
and harmful substances it could be physical, chemical, biological or
other micro-organisms like bacteria virus etc. It is a serious issue
because it takes lives of millions of people every year. Considering
the harmful effects the pharmaceutical and chemical industry took an
initiative step to remove harmful effluents from water body and
started water treatment plant from effluent therefore it is known as
Effluent Treatment Plant or ETP
Plant.
Effluents
produce from drugs and other medicated stuff. Effluents treatment
includes elimination of organics elements, dirt, other polluting
materials, toxic substances, polymers etc.
It
is like a sewage treatment plant where the domestic waste water is
treated for purification which is relatively less polluted in terms
of harmful material whereas in Effluent Treatment Plant the process
and set up is different because the water contain more harmful
substances. Therefore, almost all big industries where chemicals are
used set up an ETP.
The
water treatment process completes in mainly three steps
1)
Pre-treatment step
2)
Primary step
3)
Secondary therapy
In
Pre-treatment step water is processed to be set for treatment where
is sieved for the relatively big solid substances' removal.
In
the primary treatment the water is poured trough rusting and
corrosion free HDPE
Piping (High Density Poly- Ethylene) in to big FRP
chemical storage tank as water contains chemical as well,
as a part of impurity. Now materials that float oil, grease etc can
be remove very easily.
In
the secondary treatment is quite technical process where various
methods such as evaporation, centrifuging, filtration, incineration
etc take place for water treatment.
Ministry
of India also encourages ETP. There is a scheme called Common and
Combined Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP), with government support
even Small Scale Industries (SSI) also avail themselves for effluent
water treatment process.
